Skidmore-Tynan trustees hired Dan Garza, who currently serves as principal at the junior high, as the new athletic director and head football coach.

The decision came by unanimous vote during Thursday’s board meeting.

Dr. Brett Belmarez, superintendent, said, “He has been our junior high principal for three years. This is his fourth year he is currently embarking on.”

Garza will serve in both positions through the holidays and continue assisting at the junior high until a new principal is hired.

Belmarez said that Garza has years of experience as a coach, having served similar positions at schools in Floresville ISD and at Antonian, a private school in San Antonio. He also has worked as assistant coach in Beeville and Pettus.

“We are excited to get somebody of this caliber in Skidmore,” Belmarez said. “His leadership skills are a proven commodity in our district.”
