But before standing-room-only crowd at the Edna gym, the Cowgirls responded with victories in the next three games to take a hard-earned four-set win and capture the outright 30-2A title.
Goliad dominated the first game 25-15 before the Cowgirls bounced back with 26-24, 25-19 and 25-23 victories to improve to 14-0 in district play. The Tigerettes, who fell to 27-11 and 12-2, settled for the runner-up playoff berth out of 30-2A and will face either Natalia or Cotulla, who will play Saturday for the third-place playoff berth in District 29-2A, in the bi-district playoffs Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Nixon.
