Mr. Almager was born in Beeville on Feb. 7, 1915, to Eleuterio Almager and Gertrudes Almager (Garcia). He was a veteran of WWII and worked for Southwestern Bell for 36 years. He loved playing dominoes and cards and worked as a carpenter and did lawn care and landscaping.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margarita G. Almager; sons, Willie Martinez and Equietero Martinez; daughter, Maria Anita Martinez; and parents.
Survivors include two daughters, Rosalinda A. Lucero of Huntsville and Herlinda A. Vega of Corpus Christi; a son, Margarito G. Martinez Sr. of Beeville; granddaughters, Irmalinda A. Mejia, Enedina C. Juarez, Norma M. Perez, Amanda Sancken, Margarita Martinez and many others; seven grandsons, Delmar Chavarria, Santigo Martinez, Jose Leomar Mendoza, Jose Omar Mendoza, Orlando Almager, Andy Vega Jr., Margarito Martinez Jr. and many more; numerous great-grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; daughters-in-law, Lupe Martinez, Nancy Martinez, Emilia Martinez; sons-in-law, Juan Lucero, Andy Vega, Ray Teran; and numerous other family members and friends.
Pallbearers were Ruben A. Lucero, Eden A. Lucero, Fausto A. Lucero, Raudel G. Lucero, Renko R. Lucero, Andy Vega Jr., Timoteo Martinez and Justin Mendoza.
Honorary pallbearers were Gustavo Almager, Gerardo Juarez and Luis Lugo.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday, May 19, at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Huntsville. Interment followed at Mayes Addition of Oakwood Cemetery in Huntsville.
Mr. Almager lay in state at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home on Wednesday and Thursday, May 16-17, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday, May 18, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with a rosary recited that evening at 7 o’clock.
