TULOSO-MIDWAY —The Trojans broke open a close game at the half with a second half performance in which the Beeville defense shut out the Warriors, and the Trojan offense put up another 21 points on the T-M boys for a 41-13 victory on the Warriors’ home turf.

Beeville got on the scoreboard first as QB Cameron Kremers teamed up with receiver Jo Rey Garza for a 57-yard touchdown. Garza got behind the T-M defensive backs and Kremers laid the throw right in Garza’s hands for the easy TD and a 7-0 lead on Marcos Ulloa’s extra point kick.

The hosts scored on their first possession, driving 72 yards with Tyler Smith going the final yard for the score. The PAT was true, and the scoreboard was all tied up at 7-7.

The teams traded punts on their next possession, and the Trojans got the ball back at their own 44 just before the end of the first period. The Beeville drive got down to the Warrior 28-yard line with Steven Garcia, Tristan Pelitire and Garza sharing the rushing duties. The Trojans then went to a little trickery as Tanner Treviño got the handoff from Kremers and rolled right. Tight end Hunter Hardy broke open at about the two, and Treviño nailed him for the scoring strike. Hardy pulled away from a Warrior defender to get the TD. Ulloa was again true on his kick, and the Trojans jumped back in front 14-7 with 9:22 left in the first half.

Tuloso-Midway answered after getting a crucial first down on a fake punt to keep its drive alive. Running back Alberto Vega went the final yard for the Warriors for the score. The PAT kick went wide left, so the Trojans hung on for a 14-13 lead with 5:42 left in the second quarter.

The Warriors tried to kick short, but Beeville covered the kick and took over on offense at the T-M 46-yard line. Pelitire, Treviño and Garcia picked up most of the yardage down to the Warrior seven. Pelitire then busted loose up the middle for the Trojans’ third TD to make it a 20-13 game. A fake kick on the PAT led to an incomplete pass in the end zone for a missed chance to add two more points. The TD gave the Beeville boys a 20-13 lead at halftime.

Those 13 first half points were all the Warriors would get. The Trojan defense came up big in the second half as Brent Puga, Dexter Durment, Conrad Ruiz and Aric Gamez controlled the line of scrimmage. All three came up with sacks in the second half as T-M was forced to try and throw more than it probably had hoped. Linebackers Joey Granados and Dylan Knapp also made life miserable for the Warrior quarterback and runners.

The Trojans added two third period scores as Garcia went 24 yards for one score and then Treviño hauled in a wide-out screen from Kremers and raced by the T-M defenders for a 47-yard score midway through the third quarter. The Trojans led 34-13 with 7:33 left in the period.

Defensive stops by Ruiz, Durment and Gamez helped shut down the T-M offense early in the fourth stanza. The Warriors went to another fake punt to try and keep a drive going, but the Trojans stopped it cold, and the ball went back to the Beeville offense at its own 46-yard line.

The Trojans drove the ball on the ground with Ernest Suniga and Garza getting the bulk of the carries. Treviño ran for a good, tough two yards down to the Warrior one. Head coach Troy Moses then went big as 226-pound lineman Matthew Botello set up in the Trojan backfield. Botello fulfilled the coach’s plan as he plunged in for the visitors’ final touchdown.

The Warriors had one last possession, but the Trojan defense again gave them just a couple of first downs before forcing a punt with 2:26 left in the game. The Trojans ran a couple of plays before taking a knee over the final minute plus to run out the clock and keep the final at 41-13.

The Trojans finished the season at 3-7 overall and avoided being shutout in district with the win on Friday night. The Beeville boys were 1-5 in District 30-4A play. The Warriors also finished the regular season at 3-7 and were also 1-5 in district.
