A recent article from another paper discussed whether hostile and angry bloggers and commentors kept people from contributing to online news sites.  The answer was "Yes" - trolls and hysterical angry writers discourage some from participating.

On this site, there are some snarky people - which is okay, many people like a good snark now and again.

Then there are the other people - the ones who put out misinformation and do nothing more than attack other people, rather than their opinions.  These people have no "netiquette" - they shout (all capital letters) and make rude remarks. They attempt to discover who is posting (cyberstalking) for who-knows-what purpose.  They don't discuss facts or even opinions - they just insult and attempt to demean other writers.

Has any of this type of behavior discouraged you from commenting on any story?

Actually, I was talking about Bush and his approval ratings, since some people think 50% approval for Obama less than a year after he inherited a terrible economy, a recession, and two wars from Mr. Bush.

If you want to discuss this, take it to the current events topic I just posted. This one is going to be archived, since my point was so nicely proved by heelfire and it managed to knock him off the front page for a little while. Any other off topic posts will be deleted, no matter who they are from.

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response[1] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[2]

Sorry, I don't fit the definition. You, on the other hand....

I said polls dont say what the people said yesterday.

Obama campained hard for the Demo's and got beat badly. The ones running on the demo ticket will not have much confidence in Obama that means he is losing power. See how far he has fallen in just 1 year. Imagine how bad it will be next year. Bad I say. It dont matter what the seats were for its Obama campained so hard and lost. That matters bud.

A poll is a poll. Obama supported the defeated demo's spending a lot of time and money doing it.

They got beat bad. Thats the deal here bud. That shows he is losing power and in just 1 year lost so much support. Just wait for the future and see how he loses more. No one up for election will have confidence in his support because of yesterday.

And your poll is old and wrong. Look some more before you get kicked off.

For those consumed with our current president's approval ratings (50% approval rating per Gallup Poll 11/4/09), a little trip down memory lane...

CBS http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/01/16/opinion/polls/main4728399.shtml

"President Bush will leave office as one of the most unpopular departing presidents in history, according to a new CBS News/New York Times poll showing Mr. Bush's final approval rating at 22 percent."

I don't think President Obama has anything to worry about and 50% of people in the U.S. do not agree with the heelfires of the world. Where is the majority? Still with Obama.

Sorry "ARegulator", if you can't stick to the topic, which is whether attack dog-style commentors keep others from posting, you gotta go. Just like your friend, Heelfire.

pvscribe - amazing how the GOP calls giving the NY congressional seat to a Democrat a victory, isn't it? Let see, 2 state governors went GOP and the Dems picked up 2 congressional seats. Since Governors are concerned with states and have absolutely no power over the federal govt, I'd say that was a pretty empty win.

But the NY race - hahaha, the Conservative Party forcing out the Republican candidate and then LOSING a seat that hasn't been held by a Democrat since the Civil War?

Better than a soap opera.

pv, why don't u start a blog, then you can have fun kicking off and deleting trolls too?

Poll numbers rise and fall depending on a number of factors such as how questions are phrased, reliability of the statistical sample, etc. As I stated earlier, the only poll that matters is the one taken on Election Day.

The question for the GOP is whether they can find a candidate that represents the values of the party and still be popular enough to win the general election. In 2008, the answer was no. Even with President Obama's declining poll numbers in 2009, I believe that the GOP still does not have any viable candidates that could win a potential matchup against the President.

Reviewing the past blogs and postings since about May, I noticed there are fewer people contributing to the blogs and those that still contribute, do so less often. I also noticed that a certain troll attacked each and every one of them. I was wondering why HF kept calling me ranchogirl – there actually was a poster by that name who, of course, was accused of being someone else. Mr Pate used to contribute fairly often as well but, of course, was attacked by the flaming troll. What a shame – many of those previous writers are intelligent and informed people who could contribute much to the discussion.

Hi Andrew, glad you dropped by.

ARegulator said it well. I prefer not to read HF at all. It's not hard at all to click and go elsewhere when I note the first line of his rantings.

You do realize, HF, that you are also one of the "dweebs like those below"?

ARegulator - your comment really doesn't address the topic, though I realize we have strayed due to troll attacks. This topic is to discuss the effect of commenters that attack others and how it discourages the use of the blogs. HF's continual attacks and aggressive speech have served as an example of one that has run rampant on the BeePic online under the flag of free speech. The good thing about blogs is that they aren't columns in the paper and anyone is free to ignore them.

People who object to the posts of other people are certainly free to click on "Report Abuse", on the BeePic online page.
