The Goliad County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with Coastal Bend Crime Stoppers in an all-out effort to combat burglaries in Goliad County through the establishment of a “Burglar Bounty.”

Much like the established Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week, the new Burglar Bounty program will offer a reward of up to $1,000 to anyone who provides information that leads ot the arrest of a burglary suspect or the solution of a burglary occurring in Goliad County. Callers remain anonymous, even when the cash reward is paid.

“Burglaries are a particularly devastating occurance to the victim. Many victims of a burglary will tell you how violated they feel after having their home or business broken into, and many of them live of fear of the burglar returning,” Sheriff Kirby Brumby said. “Additionally, many of our local burglaries are committed by individuals trying to fund a drug habit, so it tends to be an ongoing cycle of victimization.”

For that reason, Brumby said, the Burglar Bounty program was established to bring the resources of Crime Stoppers into greater play to expose those who are committing burglaries in Goliad County.

“We’re making burglaries a top priority,” Brumby said.

Brumby stressed the new reward program will not affect the long-established Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week program.

“The Crime of the Week program will, of course, continue to offer a reward of up to $1,000 for featured crimes,” Brumby said. “The Burglar Bounty will be an additional ongoing program and anyone with information about burglaries can call Crime Stoppers anytime. If the information leads to an arrest or solving a burglary, the caller will be eligible for the reward.”

Anyone with information about burglaries in Goliad County can call Coastal Bend Crime Stoppers at 361-362-0206 or 1-877-362-0206.

Callers do not have to give their name. Callers are assigned a number and encouraged to call back to check on the status of their information. If an arrest is made or burglary solved as a result of the information, the reward will be paid in cash and without callers ever having to identify themselves.
