Goliad County Fair kicks off events Thursday

GOLIAD – The Goliad County Fair and PRCA Rodeo will begin events Thursday with the animal check-ins and the carnival.

The event will last through Sunday at the Goliad County Fairgrounds.

On Thursday, check-in for junior commercial heifers will be from 7:30 a.m. to noon. Check-in for homemaking entries will be from 8 to 10 a.m.

Sifting swine (8-10 a.m.), sifting rabbits (9 to 11 a.m.), sifting lambs and goats (10 to 11 a.m.), sifting broilers and turkeys (10:30 to 11:30 a.m.) and sifting beef cattle (11 a.m. to noon) will also be Thursday.

Junior commercial judging and broiler judging will be Thursday starting at 1 p.m. Turkey judging will begin at 2 p.m. and rabbit judging will start at 3 p.m. Swine judging will be at 7 p.m.

Homemaking exhibits will open Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Lamb judging will be at 9 a.m. Friday, pee wee goat judging will be at 10 a.m. and goat judging will be at 10:30 a.m.

Also Friday, commercial heifer awards will be presented at 1 p.m. breeding cattle judging will start at 1:30 p.m. with steer judging to follow.

The commercial heifer auction will be Friday at 5 p.m. A dance at the Goliad Memorial Auditorium with Joe Salinas and the Dancehall Demons will be from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

On Saturday, county roping books open at 8 a.m. and the event will start at 9 a.m.

Homemaking division exhibits will be open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Goliad County Fair Parade will be held around the Courthouse Square on Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Also Saturday, Vicki Cross and Jay Harvey will provide musical entertainment at the barbecue area from noon to 1:30 p.m.

An antique farm equipment show will be offered Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Saturday’s Sale of Champions and Blue Ribbon Food Auction will start at 1:30 p.m. Check out for the homemaking division entries will be 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday.

The Pear Ratz will close Saturday’s events with a dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Goliad Memorial Auditorium.

The carnival will be open from 5 to 11 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, from noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday.

The PRCA rodeo will be Friday, March 14 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, March 15 at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, March 16 at 2 p.m.
