Stewart, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Goliad, has a Christmas tree in almost every room. Throughout the house are approximately 50 nativity scenes and hundreds of figurines and other decorative Christmas pieces.
“I just have a whole big collection of stuff from my travels,” Stewart said.
Stewart said she began collecting Christmas ornaments and figurines back in the early 1980’s.
“I started getting houses and stuff,” Stewart said. “I liked churches. I get them and then I decorate them.”
Stewart has one village in her living room that remains displayed throughout the year. She updates the decorations depending on what season of the year it is.
“I’ll decorate it for Easter and the Fourth of July,” Stewart said.
Stewart said she doesn’t have a favorite scene or figurine.
“They are all my favorites,” Stewart said. “Each and everyone of them is special and has it’s own special story.”
Stewart said she begins putting out the Christmas decorations the day after Thanksgiving.
“This is my first Christmas in this house, so I had to start from scratch,” Stewart said.
Stewart has already purchased tree ornaments from Goliad State Park and Presidio La Bahia.
Stewart said she has received requests from house guests who have stayed with her during the holidays.
“They say don’t put all that stuff in my room because I’ll never be able to sleep,” Stewart said.
