PREVIEW: The Tigerettes will start in Lane 9. Goliad finished second at the Region IV-2A meet with a time of 1:44.65, which is fifth among the state qualifiers.
Three of the top teams expected to compete for the team title with Goliad will be in the race, including Rosebud-Lott, which could break the 15-year-old Class 2A record in the event. Jefferson (1:41.75) and Omaha Paul Pewitt (1:42.00) rank behind Rosebud-Lott among the qualifiers. San Antonio Cole (1:44.63) had the fourth-best regional time.
Other teams in the event will be Bangs (1:44.98), Cameron Yoe (1:45.33), Breckenridge (1:45.43) and Daingerfield (1:45.43).
The Goliad team of Ashtin Zamzow, Perry, Howard and Avery Zamzow won the bronze medal in this event last year with a time of 1:42.225. Jefferson won the event in 2013 with a time 1:41.24 and returns all four runners from last year's team. Omaha Paul Pewitt was fourth in 1:42.230. Breckenridge also competed in this event at last year's state meet.
SYNOPSIS: With only one athlete in the field events, the Tigerettes will need to score high in this event to remain in the hunt for the team title with Omaha Paul Pewitt, Jefferson and Rosebud-Lott..
