GOLIAD – Following is a preview of the Class 2A girls 300-meter hurdles at Friday's and Saturday's UIL State Track and Field Championships at Austin's Mike A. Myers Stadium:

GOLIAD ATHLETES: Ashtin Zamzow and Katelyn Salziger

STARTING TIME: 8:05 p.m., Friday

FASTEST QUALIFYING TIME: 45.05 seconds by Elkhart's Paige Fillmore

STATE RECORD: 40.96 by Saginaw's Donique Flemings in 2008

CLASS 2A RECORD: 41.86 by Lauren Beldrich of Rogers in 2013

PREVIEW: Zamzow won the Region IV-2A title in 45.43, which ranks fifth among the state qualifiers. Salziger was second at the regional meet in 45.84 and ranks eighth. All nine qualifiers ran below 46 seconds. Fillmore was sixth at last year's state meet in 45.56. The only returnee from last year's state meet is Brady's Chyna Washington, who finished ninth with a time of 47.72 and is this year's second-fastest qualifier with a 45.26. The other qualifiers are Wall's Saegan Jost (45.27), Alba Golden's Jessika Barnhart (45.35), Eustace's Madi Allen (45.44), Grandview's Jordan Nash (45.77) and Littlefield's Ashley Dendy (45.97). Zamzow will be in Lane 4 and Salziger will run in Lane 5.

SYNOPSIS: Only 0.92 separates all the qualifiers, so Zamzow and Salziger could score big points for the Tigerettes' team title quest with personal-best performances.

NEXT PREVIEW: Goliad's Dalton Sturm in the Class 2A boys 300-meter hurdles.
