What might it have been like for those first followers of Jesus as they were confronted with the stories of the empty tomb? What did they think? What did they feel? How did those thoughts and feelings change when the resurrected Jesus began appearing to them? What were they supposed to do now: carry on from where they left off as if nothing had happened? Those questions were among the many explored as worshipers at St. Paul’s Lutheran of Karnes City were invited to more deeply explore the story recounted in Luke 24:36b-48 through the eyes of an “unnamed eyewitness”.

What might all this mean for us? In the midst of our joy and disbelief the risen Christ comes to us and sends us out into the world to be his witnesses. Witnessing simply means telling the story of what we have experienced, seen, and heard, and then issuing the invitation for those listening to come and witness for themselves. We do not have to be doctrinal experts or walking theological encyclopedias, we simply need to be a voice sharing the hope that lives within us.
