He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Alma Staples Slaughter and his brother, James Emory Slaughter.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mary Ellen Bunch Slaughter; son and wife Todd and Sherri Slaughter; daughter Lynn and husband Ron Darnell; daughter Julie and husband Kirk Leavell; grandchildren Tye Szalwinski, Kayleigh Darnell, Lauren, Madison, and Jillian Slaughter, Karsen and Kash Leavell. Also survivng is his sister-in-laws, Hildegarde of Kerrville and Dee Salmon of Dallas.
He attended Patti Welder High School and Victoria Junior College where he excelled in sports—football, basketball, and track. Tom served 4 years in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by Central Power and Light Company for 30 years. Tom was a member of the First Baptist Church most of his life and at present he worshiped at Community Bible Church.
Tom is remembered by his children and family as a fun-loving father. He was an accomplished diver and loved swimming with his children. They all spent a lot of time camping and floating the Frio River. He enjoyed having coffee with friends at Barth’s Restaurant, listening to classic country music, and playing golf with his special friends at the Karnes County Country Club.
A private family service is planned for a later date and memorials may be sent to Community Bible Church in San Antonio or Gentiva Hospice Foundation, 7801 Mesquite Bend Drive, Suite 105, Irving, TX 75063.
