Absentee ballot applications due Feb. 21

KARNES COUNTY – Karnes County Elections Administrator Karen Opiela is reminding local residents that applications for an absentee ballot by mail (ABBM) must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Feb. 21.

Requests for ABBM for the upcomig March 4 Republican or Democratic Primary Elections must be submitted to the Karnes County Elections Office. Eligible voters can call the office at 780-2246 to request an ABBM. The application is also available by clicking a link at the elections page at the Karnes County website at There are some very specific deadlines voters must abide by and information is in the “early voting” section of the website.

To vote early by mail (which used to be called voting absentee) voters must meet certain criteria:

Voter must be away from his or her county on Election Day and during early voting or is sick or disabled or is 65 years of age or older on Election Day or confined in jail but eligible to vote.

All ABBMs must be submitted by 5 p.m. Feb. 21 in person directly or by mail or by common or contract carrier.
