Bee County Adult Literacy Council (BCALC) board members recently received a $5,000 check as a grant from the Coastal Bend Community Foundation. These funds will go to help BCALC provide the services that make Bee County a more literate community.

The Coastal Bend Community Foundation was incorporated in 1981, with the mission of enhancing and improving the quality of life in the seven counties of the Coastal Bend. The foundation serves donors by providing a vehicle for the establishment of various types of charitable funds designed to fulfill their wishes. Since its inception, the foundation has distributed more than $60 million in donor contributions and revenues in scholarships to students and grants to nonprofit organizations.

BCALC is sponsoring a tutor training workshop that is scheduled for Saturday, March 12, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Coastal Bend College Lott-Canada Facility on 900 W. Corpus Christi St. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer tutor is encouraged to attend. For more information, contact the BCALC office at 354-5335.
