How does one express frustration? Anger? Stress? Ranting? All of these I feel when I see what is going on with the “people next door.” It doesn’t involve them personally, because their lifestyle is their own business. What frustrates me is what is happening to their animals. They have five dogs and two small horses that are neglected by lack of water and adequate food.
For two years, we built shelters for them, fed them and watered them without any compensation or thanks. Finally, we could not continue that due to the finances and having to go on their property. So five months ago, we stopped caring for them and waited for them to begin to deteriorate, which they have. The plan was to call the “authorities” and have the “system” take care of the situation. But that did not work.
We called and were told that, so long as they had food and water, nothing could be done. Well, there were times that they did not have water or food and nothing was done. Today, one of the horses did not have food or water, but there were “droppings” in the cage, which was sufficient to account for care.
Why someone would want to have possession of animals they do not intend to care for is beyond me. Granted, our animals have it made, and I don’t expect others to care for them as we do. I would expect them to care for them by giving them the basics of food, water and shelter.
My frustration is with the “system,” where no one can do anything. And if we continue to do something about it, we run the risk of being prosecuted for trespassing and getting arrested ourselves.
At this point, all that is left to do is to watch these animals die.
