WOODSBORO — A Beeville woman is dead and a Karnes City man remains in critical condition with head injuries following a one-vehicle roll-over accident Saturday, Oct. 13, at 5:58 a.m.

Roxanna Leal, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:27 by Justice of the Peace Emi Riemenschneider.

David Noel Leal, 22, was transported by HALO-Flight air ambulance to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital in Corpus Christi.

David Leal was driving west on FM Road 2441 about one mile west of Woodsboro at a high rate of speed, according to the DPS office in Corpus Christi. The driver was traveling through a slight curve in a 2009 Toyota Camry when he lost control. Leal drove off the roadway on the left side of the highway, according to the DPS report. He then re-entered the roadway, crossing both lanes of traffic, and left the roadway on the right side of the road.

The vehicle went into the ditch and hit the embankment of a culvert which sent the car airborne, rolling end-over-end approximately two times before coming to rest upright.

Roxanna Leal was ejected and David Leal was pinned in the vehicle. The deceased victim was not wearing a seat belt.

The weather was clear, and the roadway was dry.

DPS Trooper Todd Kocian of Rockport investigated the accident.
