ODEM— The Skidmore-Tynan Lady Cats relied on their defense the whole night and it paid off with a 38-16 victory over the Odem Owls on Tuesday night.

“The girls did an awesome job of playing defense throughout the whole game. At times, it looked like the Odem girls didn’t know what to do against us,” said S-T head coach Joseph Grimes III.

“In the first half we made a lot of turnovers and we were not getting many opportunities to score.”

That changed little in the third period but the S-T girls got revved up in the fourth quarter to blow out the Owls. It was a 9-9 contest at the half. The Lady Cats held their opponents to just two third quarter points while adding eight tallies to their side.

The S-T offense exploded in the fourth quarter as the shots began to fall through the nets finally. The Lady Cats hit for 21 points over the final eight minutes to pull away from their hosts for the 38-16 victory.

“We settled down and got the ball inside to the posts and got great looks at the basket. These Lady Cats really worked hard on getting this win,” said Grimes.

Amber Hughlett hit for 15 points for the Lady Cats. Mari Martinez added 12 markers. Isabel Jimenez had three points while Kayla DeLeon, Khelsey Corrigan, Erica Navarez and Neomi Garza had two apiece.

The JV Lady Cats were also winners on Tuesday evening, posting a 35-19 win over the young Lady Owls.

The Lady Cats hosted the Mathis Lady Pirates on Friday night and will travel to George West on Tuesday night for their season finale.
