After returning from a closed session, council member Buddy Zavesky made a motion to place Bise under the improvement plan to be monitored by interim City Administrator Larry Zermeno. Council member Ed Carter seconded Zavesky’s motion, which was passed 5-0. Council member Vickie Rubio was absent.
Mayor Jay Harvey would not comment on the reasons for placing Bise on the 90-day performance evaluation.
“There are some issues and that’s how the council decided to handle it,” Harvey said.
Among the several supporters of Bise who spoke to the council were Newton Warzecha, President of the Presidio La Bahia Foundation; Warzecha’s wife, Suzi, a local business owner; and Carol Griffith, local property owner and businesswoman.
“The qualities she has brought to our small community have been more than numerous,” Suzi Warzecha said. “Her ability to orchestrate within the budget that she was given is exceptional - as is her vivacious personality and ability to within many areas of our community and garner more volunteers than we have experienced in a great while.”
“It is so encouraging to those of us who continue trying to freshen up and promote the Square to have Bridgette give of her time and energy to help,” Griffith said. “Please give her a chance to make a difference. Christmas In Goliad is next week. This is not time to make a change.”
Bise was hired in January and began work Feb. 1. She left the Victoria Convention and Visitors Bureau in June 2011.
