Sheriff Robert Bolcik reported 1,861 calls went through dispatch from March 28, through April 3.

The sheriff’s department responded to 53calls; the Refugio Police Department, 36; state troopers four; Woodsboro Marshal, three; medics, 15; animal control, 10; Refugio VFD, two; Woodsboro VFD, one; Tivoli VFD, three; Austwell VFD, three.

The sheriff reported that the county fair went smoothly without any major incidents.

“We had uniformed and plain-clothed officers out walking the grounds,” he said.

One booth was broken into; however, the sheriff said everything had already been removed so nothing was stolen.

Arrest for cocaine

One female subject was arrested on March 30 at 8:20 p.m. after admitting to having cocaine in her vehicle. DPS Trooper Kent Williams initiated the traffic stop on U.S. 77. The vehicle was searched and a semi-automatic Bersa 380 caliber pistol was also found. The female subject was taken to Refugio County Jail.

Car accident

No injuries were reported in a one vehicle roll over on U.S. 77 on April 2 at 12:25 p.m. The vehicle was driving in the south bound lane.

Refugio Fire Department, DPS Troopers, Refugio Sheriff’s Department, and Refugio City Police responded to the accident. A wrecker was paged to pick up the vehicle and the scene was cleared.

Grass fire

A four-wheeler burst into flames on April 1 at 3:28 p.m.

The caller reporting the incident was concerned that the fire would spread to the grass. Deputy Shelly Haertig was dispatched and advised that the fire had spread to the grass.

Tivoli Fire Department was on the scene and requested assistance from Refugio and Austwell VFDs. The fire was extinguished after all the help arrived.

Warrant arrest

One male subject was taken to Refugio County Jail on April 3 at 11:58 a.m. Officer Jamie O’Reilly initiated a traffic stop on Hwy 77 north of Refugio. After running the subjects driver’s license, the subject came back with a warrant out of Galveston County. After confirming the warrant, the subject was arrested and taken to the jail.

Theft

A trailer was reported stolen on April 2 at 5:29 p.m. after the trailer had been involved in an accident earlier that morning. The owner advised that the trailer was not there, only the truck.
