The Kenedy Bluebonnet Days Festival celebrates the arrival of spring and the beautiful bluebonnets and other wildflowers that decorate the local area.

Local residents and visitors are welcomed to the annual event by members and officials with the Kenedy Chamber of Commerce who organize the event each year.

Traditionally, the event begins with a Bluebonnet Days Tea at which the Miss Bluebonnet Days Queen and Court are selected by a panel of judges.

This year, the Bluebonnet Days Tea is set for April 17.

On Saturday, May 7, there will be a 5K run at Joe Gulley Park at 7 a.m.

The Bluebonnet Days Parade will take place downtown as usual Saturday morning, May 7, at 11 a.m. John Wayne Schulz and Gabe Garcia will be the Grand Marshalls for the parade this year.

The remaining festival events will happen at the Chesnutt Arena.

On Friday, May 6, there will be a roping event in the arena, the cook-off teams will move in, the Margarita Contest will be held, there will be food, beer and other drinks, and John Wayne Schulz and his band will perform that evening.

Entry into the event is $10 per person for everyone.

On Saturday, the Triple Heat Cook-off will begin at 8 a.m., with awards at 4:30 p.m. The winners from the Friday roping will rope again on Saturday, and mutton bustin’ and a calf scramble will be held for the kids. More events are possible.

The annual car show will take place at the Alexander Auto Center parking lot starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The car show is open for all to enjoy. The event benefits the Explorers Club.

Entertainment for Saturday evening will be openers Gabe Garcia and Jon Pardi followed by Jarrod Birmingham.
