Former Refugio Police Chief Chris Brock pleaded guilty Wednesday at 2:39 p.m. to misapplication of property by a fiduciary, a third degree felony, and accepted a sentence of three years in prison.

"We dropped the other two felony charges in exchange for his plea," said District Attorney Michael Sheppard, prosecuting attorney for Refugio County.

Sheppard said Brock will be formerly sentenced in about 30 days.

On Monday, 12 jurors and two alternates were selected to serve on the jury.

Judge Bert Richardson released the jurors early on Tuesday so that Brock’s attorney, John Gilmore, could review approximately 8-10 boxes of documents submitted to the court by the Texas Rangers and the FBI. Ray Hardy, assistant DA in Refugio County, sat in the courtroom with Gilmore and his assistants as they reviewed the documents.

Brock was indicted in September 2009 on three felony counts — theft by a public servant, felony misappropriation of property by a fiduciary and abuse of official capacity. The indictments stemmed from drug seizure money.

The trial was moved to Victoria on a change of venue motion filed by the defense attorney.
