Bulldog track competes in Goliad

The Varsity and Junior Varsity Bulldog track squad traveled to Goliad last week and competed well against teams from Yoakum, Gonzales, Karnes City, Cuero, Alice, St. Joseph, regional power Rice Consolidated and the host team Goliad.

This was the first meet held on Goliad’s brand new track and field facility. The track surface is identical to the track surface at the University of Texas, where the State meet is held every year. The 4x100 relay finished 5th with a time of :46.32.

The relay consists of Troy Chowns, Gage Crawford, Kaleb Gee, and Jacob Muniz. In the 100 meter dash, Gee finished third in his heat with a 12.22 and Jacob Muniz finished fourth in his heat with a 12.29.

The 4x200 relay team of Chowns, Crawford, Dustin Thomas, and Garrett Wieding finished third in the prelims with a 1:35.21.

Wieding finished third in the 300 hurdle prelim with a :42.91 and Charlie Johnston finished fifth with a :44.82. Chowns finished fourth in his heat in the 200 with a :24.7. Michael Casarez and Patrick Jarratt finished ninth and tenth in the 3200. The 4x400 relay team of Thomas, Johnston, Crawford, and Wieding finished second behind 3A Yoakum. Three Rivers finished with a 3:34.97.

Competing in field events for the Bulldogs were Crawford and Wieding in the High Jump. Wieding finished fifth. Kalli Escamilla finished sixth in the Shot Put.

The Junior Varsity 4x100 relay team got sixth place with a :50.21. The relay members are Nathan Morin, Ahmit Patel, Adam Romero and Zenon Sanchez. Competing in the 100m dash were Morin, Robby Stoddard and Travis Smith. Stoddard finished 4th in his heat with a :12.94. The JV represented TR well in the 400m run as Hagan Johnston ran a :59.96 and Avery Newport ran a :58.72, Hans Herold ran a 56.64 and Dillon Guajardo ran a 57.90. Guajardo finished third in the finals and Herold finished fourth. The 4x200 relay team of Hagan Johnston, Sanchez, Patel and Romero finished fourth with a 1:47.22. Chris Lopez, Stoddard, Travis Smith , and Newport ran the 200. Newport ran a :26.25 to get sixth place overall. Competing in field events were Travis Smith in the Triple Jump, Dillon Guajardo in the pole vault, Tanner Johanson in the shot put and discus, along with Stoddard and Newport. Newport finished sixth in the discus and Guajardo received second place in the pole vault with a vault of 10’.

The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs will be hosting a Tri-meet with George West and Falls City tomorrow Thursday, March 17th) here in TR. Field events will begin at 4 p.m. and running events will kick off at 5:30 p.m.
