The newly renovated SSC, formerly known as the Learning Assistance Center, was created with assistance from the Cooperative Title V Celebrando Educación grant. All current CBC students now have access to state-of-the-art laptops and graphing calculators to check out and utilize in their classes, free of charge. Furthermore, the SSC purchased new furniture to create a study area where students can study alone or in groups in a comfortable setting. These features equip students with tools to succeed in their courses at CBC.
Instructors also benefit from the new SSC by being able to utilize the Mobile Computer Lab – laptops can now be taken into the classroom, essentially making any classroom a computer lab. By exposing more CBC students to technology, students have access to hands-on-learning opportunities that help them in-and-out of the classroom.
Utilizing grant funds, CBC was able to create a SSC that focuses on providing tools to help with student retention and success. CBC wants to help all students succeed every step of the way from registration to graduation. The new SSC is just one way CBC is keeping student success in focus and in sight.
This spring 2013, Title V has begun the implementation of the Supplemental Instruction program which helps students who need extra help outside the classroom.
