Carol Paul Remel, of Mathis, Texas, was called home to the loving arms of our Lord and Savior on October 18, 2012. Carol was born June 10, 1927, in Echo, Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, to Delia Marie and Napoleon Remel.

Carol served his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in September of 1945 and obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant E6 when he retired in October of 1966. His service record includes World War II, The Korean Conflict and The Vietnam Conflict.

Carol met his beloved wife of 55 years, Rita, in the spring of 1956 and was later wed on June 15th as a belated birthday gift. Carol and Rita often spent their time traveling the country, for military reasons and personal pleasure.

Carol was a member in good standing of the Masonic Lodge of Mathis #733, a 32 degree Scottish Rite of San Antonio, and a charter member of the Al Amin Shrine Temple of Corpus Christi. He loved participating in the parades as a member of the Directors Staff, the Camel Herder Unit and the Chuck Wagon Gang and Travelers. Carol and Rita there met most of their lifelong friends who shared their love of playing poker and traveling through the Shriners.

Carol eventually retired to the shores of Lake Corpus Christi near Mathis in 1988. He spent a majority of his time tending to his garden, fishing and taking care of Rita.

Those who welcomed Carol to his final home in Heaven were his loving wife, Rita Joy Remel; along with his beloved pets, Lucky and Sweetheart; his mother, Delia; and father, Napoleon. Siblings who greeted Carol were Julius Remel, Lance Remel, Edward Remel and Blanch Armond.

Carol’s memories will be kept dear by his two children, Joy Lynn (John) Burkhardt and Carol Paul (Judy) Remel Jr., and by his granddaughter, Allie Marie Burkhardt. Carol is also survived by his brother, John Remel; and sisters, Flora Gaspard and Lou Ellen Fogarty. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends will continue to keep the memory of his honorable life alive.

Please join the family in remembering Carol during his memorial service on November 3rd at Living Proof Fellowship, 1341 S. Alameda, Corpus Christi, Texas.
