Just as Paul’s faith gave him hope, strength, and stamina to live life to its full potential, our faith can empower us with energy and confidence to face the difficulties of each day. Through God’s presence and peace, our fears can be transformed into opportunities.

Paul’s faith was based on God’s mercies. He was set apart for the Lord’s use; he served and obeyed the Lord. He did not conform to the world, but was transformed by his renewed mind. Paul considered this his reasonable duty, in return for the blessing of knowing Christ.

The mob action in Ephesus put an end to Paul’s ministry there. Realizing his task of establishing the church in Ephesus was complete, he sent for the church elders. The following summary of his farewell message to them is still relevant today:

Serve the Lord with your whole body, mind and soul. Meditate on His blessings of loyalty and devotion. God requires justice, love, and humility before Him. Confess your sins and pray without ceasing, that you may be forgiven and healed. Don’t reject the will of God; for Jesus has called you to be friends, not servants, and to know what He is doing. Everything He heard from His Father is written in His Word. Proclaim the full counsel of God, that none be without truth. Watch and warn of false prophets and uprisings within the Church. Testify, preach, and teach others to turn to God in repentance and place their faith and trust in Jesus Christ.

May we, like Paul, look forward in hope, without fear of the future. May we listen to the Lord, watch and see, and then declare His Word. May our priority be to finish the course the Lord has set before us, understanding as Paul did: “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20)
