AUSTWELL – The Austwell City Council approved a total balanced budget of $170,346 for the tax year Oct. 1, 2013 to Sept. 30, 2014, at its Monday evening, Sept. 9, meeting.

The budget will be supported by a property tax rate of 31.24 cents for every $100 of property value.

Mayor David Cann also announced a tentative fundraiser for park playground equipment around Oct. 1 or Nov. 1.

Cann said the event would also honor Francesca Navarro, who will celebrate her 100th birthday on Oct. 2.

Also, Cann said the deadline for sealed bids on the 100-year-old church and two lots it sits on is noon Sept. 20 during a special meeting.

City Councilwoman Nadine Garner said several people have expressed interest in buying the property, which is owned by the city.

Cann also announced some emergency repairs to the electrical system at both lift stations.

“We had to have an electrician rewire both lift stations,” he said.

The cost of the repair was $650.
