The City of George West, TCEQ and Unify to Beautify will sponsor a Pride/Clean-up Day on Saturday, June 19, for George West residential garbage customers only. Residents must present a City utility billing stub before participating to verify garbage service.

Officials urge all citizens to push up their sleeves and begin their Spring Cleaning! Designated trash receptacles, furnished by Allied Waste and the City, will be located at the City Yard on 110 Business 59 between the hours of 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. This year the city will be accepting tires. You can bring tires! We will accept tires 19” and up and tires less than 19”. Once we reach our tire limit they will no longer be accepted at this Trash Off. Should any of the other receptacles fill, that portion of the cleanup will close.

Code Enforcement and City employees will supervise the project to ensure that improper wastes are not disposed of. All brush, metal and other debris must be separated before it will be accepted.

The following is a list of hazardous wastes that will not be accepted:

• Kitchen — Bug sprays, floor care products, furniture polish, metal polish with solvent.

• Garage — Automatic transmission fluid, battery acid or batteries, brake fluid, car wax solvent, motor oils, other oils.

• Workshop — Paint brush cleaner with solvent, cutting oil, solvent based glue, oil based paint, auto paint, model paint, paint thinner, paint stripper, primer, turpentine, varnish, wood preservative.

• Garden — Fungicide, herbicide, insecticide, rat poison, weed killers.

• Miscellaneous — Ammunition, artist’s paints and mediums, dry cleaning solvents, fiberglass epoxy, gun-cleaning solvents, lighter fluid, mercury batteries, moth balls, oil fire alarms, unmixed photographic chemicals and swimming pool acid.

They will be accepting tires with rim. Four dumpsters will be available for solid waste and they will have a collection for brush. The elderly or disabled may call for help.
