GOLIAD – Goliad County Attorney Rob Baiamonte urged county commissioners to not authorize Goliad County Sheriff Kirby Brumby or EMS Director Peggy Fonseca to designate donated funds at their discretion during Monday’s meeting.

“No democracy on earth has one person who decides how money is spent,” Baiamonte told the commissioners.

Baiamonte said even though the donations are to specific departments, the money belongs to the county and the spending of the money has to first be approved by the commissioners.

The court decided to take no action on the item.

The court also held a public hearing to lower the speed limit to 30 mph on Abrameit Road. Landowners on Abrameit Road recommended the speed limit be reduced to 40 or 45 mph.

The court decided to take no action and called for another public hearing to discuss the topic.
