The Tovars, who live in Kenedy, had recently opened their “Lucky Lady” game room on South Commercial Street in Goliad, when they asked one of their patrons where the closest barbecue restaurant was in town.
“He said there is no place,” Mary Jane recalled. “I looked at my husband and said, ‘Next.’ ”
In a matter of weeks, “Baby Jane BBQ” was opened in downtown. The restaurant opened its doors on April 2.
The eatery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. Mary Jane said business has been strong since the opening day.
“We can’t keep enough brisket cooked,” Mary Jane said. “We run out.”
The menu also includes pork ribs, beef ribs, regular and jalapeno sausage and chicken.
Mary Jane said the restaurant also plans to begin catering for special events.
