REFUGIO – The Refugio County Commissioners Court approved a resolution to seek a regional solid waste grant that would help dispose of old tires Tuesday morning, Oct. 22.

Commissioner Ann Lopez said two years have passed since the grant was offered by the Coastal Bend Council of Governments.

She said she has noticed several areas where old tires have accumulated and where in some instances the tires have been thrown in a creek or river.

“This grant would help us to turn in their tires,” Lopez said.

The resolution was passed unanimously.

Commissioners also approved sharing the county’s election costs with Woodsboro school district.

The county is pursuing a 2 percent sales tax for non-municipal areas in the county, which would be Tivoli primarily. Tivoli is an unincorporated community.

Woodsboro is pursuing a $5 million bond issue to fund equipment and upgrades to its campuses.

Both propositions are on the Nov. 5 ballot.

Commissioners also were informed that the county’s Election Administrator will partner with the Texas Department of Public Safety to issue Election Identification Certificates.

The EICs are for voters who have no other identification, such as a driver’s license.

The DPS is providing mobile EIC station equipment. And personnel in the Refugio County Election Administrator’s office have the required six-hour training.
