The McMullen County Cowgirls lost to Charlotte last Tuesday by a score of 30-24. They played good defense, but had a hard time scoring and taking care of the ball. Charlotte was held to 15 points through three quarters. Then they were let loose on a few switches and they hit some three pointers to get some momentum. They scored 15 points in the fourth quarter alone to get the lead.

“We had the same problem in this game as we did in the Pleasanton game; we played decent early but struggled down the stretch,” said coach Taylor.

Destinee Thomas lead once again in scoring with 16 points but she fouled out late in the fourth which really hurt the team. It is a must for Destinee to be in the game during crunch time, we’re going to make a few adjustments that should help her.

Our freshman guards, Sarita Cavazos and Cali Cruz played hard on defense along with senior, Jasmyn Smith. They are getting better with each game. The team needs to have the attitude of “getting better with each game” and, hopefully, by district we will have our full team back and be ready to go.

The Cowgirls will be in the Charlotte Tourney this weekend, playing Charlotte and Dilley on Friday and Pleasanton JV and Kenedy on Saturday.
