KARNES COUNTY – The last week of September was a busy one for Karnes County Sheriff’s Office deputies working in the special operations division with several individuals arrested and charges with drug-related crimes.

On Sept. 29 at about 3:41 p.m., a deputy stopped a vehicle for traffic violations on State Highway 123 just north of Panna Maria.

The deputy noticed the strong odor of marijuana searched the vehicle finding 1.8 ounces of marijuana that had been packaged for distribution. Also found were a digital scale and baggies. A juvenile claimed ownership of the marijuana and other items and was arrested. Police say the juvenile admitted selling the marijuana for profit.

Just two days earlier, on Sept. 27, at about 11:07 p.m., a deputy stopped a vehicle for traffic violations in the 800 block of West Main Street in Kenedy. The two people in the vehicle appeared nervous and the deputy searched the two persons in the vehicle. The front seat passenger was found in possession of two grams of cocaine and was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

On Sept. 25, at about 1 a.m., deputies along with Kenedy police conducted a narcotics investigation in the 200 block of Victoria Street in Kenedy. A man told police he had marijuana in his home and allowed officers in to retrieve the narcotics. One ounce of marijuana was found in the kitchen inside the man’s house.

According to information from the sheriff’s office, the man was not arrested but the case has been forwarded to the county attorney’s office for review.
