The official action came after trustees accepted Wright’s resignation following a closed meeting.
Wright said he has purchased a new home outside of his single member district No. 4, which means he can’t represent that district on the school board. Wright has served five years on the board and would have had another year left on his term.
He said he has put his heart into serving the district, more specifically the kids, and making the educational environment in Refugio a good one.
He said he is not considering running again.
“I would not run against anyone on the board. They are doing good work,” he said.
He added that if an open position came up, he would consider running again.
“We regret he is leaving,” Superintendent Jack Gaskins said.
Gaskins said that after the board’s closed session, a discussion on whether to appoint or call for an election to fill the empty position ensued.
Gaskins said school trustees have 180 days to decide on appointing someone or calling an election to fill the position.
In other business, the school board approved cancelling the school board election for single member district No. 6 and single member district No. 7, positions held by Andy Rocha and Ethel Garza.
The board also unanimously approved the purchase of new band uniforms for the 2014-15 school year. The cost for 130 uniforms was $41,578.
The board again gave their approval of Relay for Life using the baseball diamond with no fee. They decided that no fires would be allowed, or small canopies or tents.
The trustees also approved continuation of the tuition charge for pre-kindergarten non-eligible students for 2014-15. The charge is $300, which incudes a free breakfast and free lunch.
