A precautionary notice for customers of the El Oso Water Supply Corporation to boil their water prior to consumption has been lifted.

“It is no longer necessary to boil the water for the El Oso WSC customers,” El Oso said in a press release Friday afternoon, Aug. 1. “The water is safe for consumption.”

“Repairs have been completed and bacterial samples have been taken with negative results,” the press release said.

The boil water notice was issued after a break in a 12-inch water line happened July 29, but El Oso does not know how the break happened.

"El Oso WSC issued a Boil Water Notice due to a leak which is located on a 12 inch main in under the San Antonio River," said Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) spokesperson Andrea Morrow.

The boil water notice was issued as a precaution to protect the public against illness that could occur due to possible incursion of river water.

Customers can sign up for alerts such as the recent notice to boil water and subsequent notice stating boiling of water is no longer needed, via email or text message at El Oso's website (elosowsc.com).
