The council exchanged ideas and input in regards to leasing the ballpark to the Falls City Independent School District (FCISD) for its baseball athletics, as well as the Little League/youth league of the city.
“The school has used the baseball park for as long as I’ve been with the council, and the youth league uses it as well,“ said Mayor Brent Houdmann “We’re at the point now where the city doesn’t want to put all the money back into it, and we think it should all be equally shared; so we’re going to hopefully sign a lease with the school district and with the youth league, so they can assist the city in the cost of running the ballpark.”
Among the issues discussed was the possible monetary amounts of the lease, and also the possibility of sharing and splitting the cost of major maintenance issues three ways between the city, youth league, and FCISD, when the need arises.
“I personally think that the baseball park is a great community investment,” continued Houdmann. “A lot of citizens get a lot of use out of it, and not just during baseball season. (FCISD) Superintendent Linda Bettin has been great. We spoke about it and she said to come up with a price and she’ll bring it before the school board and work something out.”
The ballpark lease is still being negotiated and discussed. More information will be forthcoming as specific details become finalized and approved by all parties involved
