A brush fire fanned by a south wind spread across a part of the Blueberry Hills area west of the city shortly before 5 p.m. Friday. The flames ignited an abandoned shed near a residence just off Yahr Drive. Firefighters with the Beeville Volunteer Fire Department used a portable water tank to provide water to a pumper truck as they fought the flames consuming the abandoned shed. On Monday and Tuesday, firefighters were again called out to several grass fires that were spreading fast. Fortunately, patches of green grass helped contain these fires as they burned through the dead vegetation.
