GOLIAD – Hundreds of Goliad ISD students and faculty wore "Diago Strong" T-shirts on Thursday in support of a Goliad High School junior varsity football player who is recovering from brain surgery after lapsing into a coma on the sideline.

Diago Gonzalez, a junior, was airlifted to an Austin hospital after he collapsed after making a tackle in an Oct. 10 game at Yoakum.

Goliad's T-shirts & More by Liz created the "Diago Strong" T-shirts to help raise money for Gonzalez's medical expenses. The T-shirts cost $15 with $10 from each sale going to the family.

Students and faculty at all four campuses participated in "Diago Day" on Thursday.

Gonzalez is recovering in an Austin rehabilitation facility.
