Goliad ISD staff gathered at the high school auditorium on Aug. 14 for its “Rally Day.”

Superintendent, Christy Paulsgrove and school board vice president, Trey Wimberly welcomed returning staff and new staff to Goliad ISD for the 2012-2013 school year.

The day started off with music provided by the rock band Hall Pass, which consisted of students and staff. The band entertained with selections by the Beatles, Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Chuck Berry.

Band members were students Ali Mendoza, Marcus Benavides, Evan Fleming, Austen Guerrero, and Jason Harvey; and staff members were band director Jason Howard, history teacher Neal Tolbert, and assistant tech director David Luna.

The program began with Pastor Sharon Stewart from the Goliad First United Methodist church giving an invocation. Rebecca Walker, Assistant Superintendent introduced the new staff hired at Goliad ISD. The new staff was presented a Goliad ISD mug and a bag of goodies from the ATPE.

Dr. Rita Pierson was the guest speaker. Pierson presented a program on “A Framework for Understanding Poverty,” followed by a question- and-answer session.

Teachers will be involved with staff development this week and classes will begin on Monday, Aug. 27.
