ARANSAS PASS – The Goliad Tigerettes won the District 30-2A team tennis title March 26 with 57 points.

The Tigers finished second in the team standings.

The Tigerettes’ Mallory Bruns and Rachel Vaughn defeated teammates Hope Willms and Kennedy Drozd 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 7-5 in the girls doubles final. Goliad’s Briana Naranjo was runner-up in girls singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Palacios’ Mindy Nguyen.

Goliad’s Ryder Billo defeated Palacios’ Jackson Kelly 6-1, 6-0 to win his second-straight district boys singles title.

Goliad’s Anthony Maldonado and Kyndal Gruetzmacher lost 6-3, 6-4 in the mixed doubles final and defeated teammates Jake Schneider and Danielle Garza 6-3, 6-1 for second place. Schneider and Garza won the third-place match 6-3, 6-2 over a Refugio duo.

Billo (boys singles), Naranjo (girls singles), Bruns and Vaughn (girls doubles), Willms and Drozd (girls doubles), and Maldonado and Gruetzmacher (mixed doubles) will advance to the Region IV-2A tournament April 16 and 17 at Texas State University in San Marcos.

In the junior varsity division, Goliad’s Steven Koehne won the boys singles title, Kendall Muehlstein and Caleigh Knipling teamed for sesond in girls doubles, and Dustyn Click and Sarah Koehne finished third in mixed doubles.
