Goliad's Billo coasts to victory in No. 1 boys singles

GOLIAD – Ryder Billo defeated Yoakum’s Alex Booth 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 boys singles to help Goliad take a 14-9 dual match victory Saturday.

Goliad’s Anthony Maldonado won 6-3, 6-2 over Mason Talbert in No. 2 boys singles, John Dorsett beat Yoakum’s Paul Coronado 3-6, 6-1 (10-8) in No. 3 boys singles and Marcus Gruetzenmacher downed Yoakum’s Tristen Nordstrand 6-4, 6-4 in No. 4 boys singles.

Tanner Troell defeated Yoakum’s Michael Cardenas 7-5, 6-2 in No. 5 boys singles and Dempsey Duprie beat Yoakum’s Caleb Ferry 6-1, 6-2 in No. 7 boys singles.

Goliad’s Steven Koehne fell 6-2, 6-4 in No. 6 boys singles.

In girls singles, No. 2 Rachel Vaughn beat Yoakum’s Lucy Coleman 6-4, 6-3, No. 4 Mallory Bruns edged Yoakum’s Valauri Stassa 4-6, 6-4 (10-5), No. 7 Denise Jones downed Yoakum’s Kimberly Trujillos 6-1, 6-1 and No. 8 Danielle Garza defeated Yoakum’s JoJo Ornales 6-0, 6-0.

Goliad’s Brian Naranjo lost in No. 1 girls singles, Hope Willms fell in No. 3 girls singles, Kyndal Gruetzenmacher was defeated in No. 5 girls singles and Kennedy Drozd lost in No. 6 girls singles.

Dorsett and John Von Dohlen won in No. 2 boys doubles and Koehne and Troell won in No. 3 boys doubles. Gruetzenmacher and Maldonado fell in No. 1 boys doubles.

Yoakum swept all three girls doubles matches.

Duprie and Jones combined to defeat Yoakum’s Ferry and Trujillos 8-6 in mixed doubles.

Goliad will host Gonzales and Robstown in a tri-dual Friday.
