GOLIAD – Following is a preview of the Class 2A boys 300-meter hurdles at Friday's and Saturday's UIL State Track and Field Championships at Austin's Mike A. Myers Stadium:

GOLIAD ATHLETE: Dalton Sturm

STARTING TIME: 8:05 p.m., Friday

FASTEST QUALIFYING TIME: 39.07 seconds by Crockett's Jordan Washington

STATE RECORD: 35.33 by Copperas Cove's Robert Griffin in 2007

CLASS 2A RECORD: 36.99 by Darnius Moore of Tatum in 2007

PREVIEW: Only 0.53 separates all nine state qualifiers. Sturm won the Region IV-2A title with a time of 39.52, which is ranked seventh among the nine qualifiers.

Buffalo's Williams Adams (39.09) followed Washington among the state qualifiers and was sixth at last year's state meet in 40.33. The other qualifiers are Hooks' Jimmie Houston (39.11), Spearman's Cameron Wolf (39.20), Boyd's Dalton Stidham (39.25), Sonora's Anastacio Munoz (39.46), East Bernard's Ismael Blackwood (39.56) and Olton's J.R. Sullivan (39.60). Blackwood was fourth at last year's state meet in 39.64 and Munoz was seventh in 40.57.

SYNOPSIS: Sturm could medal with a clean race in one of the most wide-open events at the state meet.
