On Dec. 24 at the Candlelight service, the First Presbyterian Church of Karnes City recognized Joyce Houck for her love, commitment, hard work and dedication to her church, friends, family and God. Joyce became a member of Karnes City First Presbyterian church by transfer from Yoakum Presbyterian Church in 1954. Her three children, Sandra Houck Carter, Debra Houck Rouse and Gary Houck were raised in the church.

Joyce taught Sunday School, served as Bible School teacher and superintendent, and for approximately fifteen years sponsored the Youth Group.

She was a deacon and ordained as an elder in November of 1979. She was a dedicated session member for 12 years and Clerk of Session for 15 continuous years, 1994 – 2009, beautifully typing and recording the minutes and accurately tracking the membership roles.

Joyce has also been very active in the Presbyterian Women organization. She has been moderator and chaired most all committees. She has for many years been responsible for sending Prayer Cards to those in need.

Joyce truly reflects the heart and soul of our Presbyterian church. Congratulations to Joyce for receipt of this special Recognition Award from the congregation at First Presbyterian.
