JV Bobcats end perfect season as champs

REFUGIO – Last Thursday the JV Bobcat football team completed a perfect season with a 35-6 victory in Banquete.

The game not only featured a district championship, but an undefeated season as well. Coming in both teams were unbeaten in district play, making for a great match-up.

The first quarter proved to be a defensive battle for both teams. However, late in the quarter the Bulldogs drew first blood to go up 6-0. The Bobcats quickly responded with a score of their own. Anfernee Friar reached the endzone on a 35 yard pass from Brett Davis to knot up the score at 6-6.

In the second quarter the Bobcats began to assert their dominance. Marquis Brown capped a drive with a 15-yard TD run. Davis ran in the 2 point conversion to set the mark at 14-6 Bobcats.

Eli Oliver added a 35-yard TD run to close the half. A Rair Martinez PAT made it 21-6 at intermission.

The Bobcat defense dominated the second half with a shutout. Tevin Nash, Devin LaFrance, and Alexis Coronado each had sacks contributing to the cause.

Nate Smith and LaFrance each added fumble recoveries. On offense the Cats added two more scores.

Friar scored his 2nd TD of the evening on a 55-yard pass from Davis. LaFrance concluded the scoring for the evening with a 25-yard TD from Davis. A couple more Martinez PATs made the final score 35-6.

With the win the JV Bobcats finished the season (10-0).

The JV Bobcats were undefeated both in regular season and district play. They also concluded a perfect regular season along with the Junior High and Varsity teams.

“This is at least their fifth consecutive district championship,” said Coach Armando Huerta.
