LOUISE – After winning a close game against Woodsboro the week before, the Runge Yellow Jackets faced the Louise Hornets in a tough District 14-1A Division II contest. Despite the Hornets having the lead in the first half, the Yellow Jackets came back in the second half to defeat the Hornets by the score of 20-14.

In the first half, the Hornets scored twice and had a 14-0 lead at halftime. The first Runge score of the contest didn’t come until the third quarter as Travis Perez scored on a running play, with the extra point by Ryan Saucedo cutting the Hornets’ lead to 14-7. The Yellow Jackets tied it up in the fourth quarter as Perez punched it in on a QB sneak play, followed by Saucedo’s PAT.

Runge took the lead as time expired in the ball game as they utilized a trick play with Dylan Torres receiving an option pitch and then throwing to Justin Vasquez to catch the Hornets off guard and claim the 20-14 victory.

“It’s a mixed emotion as a coach,” said Runge head coach Ken Wallace. “I felt we really weren’t ready to play. Louise’s record was deceiving. On one hand, I’m angry and disappointed but on the other hand I feel we wore them down with our strength and conditioning. It may help us down the line.”

Additional statistics for the game were unavailable at press time.

This week, the Yellow Jackets will travel to Yorktown to face the Wildcats in a non-district contest.

“We’re treating this like a pre-district game,” said Wallace. “We’re going to increase our depth and make sure our kids get plenty of time. It’s a different philosophy going into this one. We’re going to use it the best we can.”

Kickoff in Yorktown is set for Friday, October 26 at 7:30 p.m.
