The Floresville Jaguars made the trip south on Highway 181 to Beeville on Tuesday evening for a volleyball match with the host Lady Trojans.

The Beeville girls had not been at home since early September and looked forward to playing before a home crowd for a change.

The Floresville girls did not make the homecoming too successful, however, as they captured a 3-0 victory in the best of five match. The scores were 25-15, 25-18 and 25-22.

The Lady Trojans showed improvement in each set and played the Jaguars really tough in sets two and three.

Floresville dominated in set one, getting out to an early 14-7 lead and led all the way for the 10-point victory at 25-15 and a 1-0 lead in the match.

In set two, the Lady Trojans again trailed early at 7-3, but fought back and closed within three or four points most of the rest of the set. The Jags held a 20-16 lead and then went on a run to outscore the Lady Trojans 5-2 down the stretch to close out set two, 25-18.

The Beeville offensive attack in set two was led by J.J. Hernandez, Brennan Holder and Shanise Wilson, all of whom hit for points in the loss.

The Jaguars led by five late in set three a couple of times, the last at 20-15. The Lady Trojans refused to quit and pulled back into the fray and got within one point at 21-20 and again at 23-22.

The Jags got the final two points to avoid going into extra points in set three for the 25-22 victory and a 3-0 sweep.

Hernandez led the Lady Trojans with nine kills on the night while Holder hit for five kills. Chelsea Contreras was a force on defense with 11 digs and Holder contributed nine digs. At the net on defense, Randi Maupin and Wilson each had two blocks.

Victoria Elizalde had a team-high 13 assists over the three sets.

Floresville is now 1-3 in district while the Lady Trojans fall to 0-4.

“We have six games left in district and we are hoping to bring home a win soon. We really started off slow and are still making too many mistakes for this level of play,” said Lady Trojan head coach Stella Resio.

“The girls have the potential to win; they just all have to do their job correctly at all times.”

The Lady Trojans played Victoria West on Friday night in Beeville and will host Port Lavaca on Tuesday night. The first serves will be hit at 5 p.m.
