James Barnes, Sr., 75, a lifelong resident of Kenedy, died in his home, Friday, Sept. 27, 2013.

Mr. Barnes was born Dec. 6, 1937 in Oilton to Thomas Alfred Barnes and Ruby Vaughn Barnes. He served his country in the United States Navy. On September 16, 1958, he married Leonora Garza in Laredo.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Leonora Barnes; his daughters, Barbara (Armando) Guerrero of Tustin, Calif. and Brenda (Edward) Villanueva of Kenedy; his sons, James (Phyllis) Barnes, Jr., of Karnes City, Michael (Katherine) Barnes, Mark Allen (April) Barnes and Brian (Cheryl) Barnes, all of Kenedy; his sisters, Cheryl Schultz and Lisa Fisher and his brothers, Johnny Schultz, Charles Schultz, Larry Barnes and Rodney Gill; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Barnes is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Ruby Barnes.

Visitation was held Monday, Sept. 30 in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. that evening.

Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 1 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Kenedy with Rev. Norbert Herman officiating.

Interment followed in the Kenedy Cemetery.
