Juanita Ortegon Chapa, 79, of Kenedy, died Saturday, July 5, 2014, in San Antonio.

Mrs. Chapa was born Dec. 27, 1934, in Kingsville to Carlos and Jesusa Perez Ortegon. On Sept. 13, 1953, she married David Chapa in Kingsville. She was a master seamstress, a Guadalupana and a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

Survivors include her daughters, Olivia “Libby” Chapa of San Antonio and Odilia Shuttlesworth of Corpus Christi; sons, Armando Chapa of Buford, Georgia, Israel (Grace) Chapa of Victoria, David (Andrea) Chapa, Jr., of Seguin and Roy Rodriguez of Beeville; sisters, Euphemia DeLaRosa and Celestina Silguero, both of Kingsville; brothers, Carlos Ortegon Jr., Demetrio Ortegon, both of Kingsville; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Chapa Sr., on May 8, 2013; parents, Carlos and Jesusa Perez Ortegon; and brothers Fabian and Leandro Ortegon.

A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel.

The funeral Mass was celebrated at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, July 10, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Rev. Norbert Herman officiating.

Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Kenedy.
