The dog days of summer are upon us. That serves as a reminder that the hurricane season is not so far away. TxDot is putting up the new signs to indicate the evacuation routes. Some years this season brings very strong winds and heavy rain. It can be a mixed blessing. This could be a new experience to a great many new residents. Check out the warning system in your part of the county.
What tastes better this time of the year than home grown tomatoes, okra and squash with a big piece of hot buttered corn bread and watermelon for dessert. The first ever Karnes County Market Days is just a few days away, on Aug. 17 on the spacious Otto Kaiser Hospital grounds beginning at 9 a.m. We already have a good number of participants, but there is plenty of room for more. We have a great food truck for breakfast and lunch, farmers with fresh produce, farm crafts, birdhouses, boutique items and lots of bling, scarfs, and hats.
Have you noticed how fat the dove are this year? Lonesome Dove Fest is coming up soon. Seems that the Eagle Ford Shale activity has brought about a consolidation of habitats and therefore bird counts. If you have land to lease please let us know at the chamber office, 830-780-3112. We just need a contact name and number and we will gladly pass it on to our callers.
