The Lady Badgers opened their basketball season with two decisive victories – one over the team that beat them last year in bi-district.
The girls defeated Marion Saturday morning 65-52 with sophomore post Morgan Kelley at high-point with 26.
“I think it’s setting a good tone that we have won these first two games,” Kelley said. “I feel pretty good, and I think it’ll be a good season.”
The girls led throughout the game, and the defense held all but one of the Lady Bulldogs to single digits. Going into Saturday’s game, the girls remembered Marion with an uneasy feeling because they fell to them in bi-district last year.
“The returners are working hard and showing enthusiasm, determination and hard work ethic,” Coach Burke Braun said. “It makes my job easier. We set goals early with high expectations.”
The Junior Varsity Lady Badgers also won their game, blowing away Marion 67-12.
Nov. 6: Win over Jourdanton
In their opening game, the Lady Badgers pounded Jourdanton 63-25. Morgan Kelley led with 15, followed closely behind by senior post Lani Pitts with 14 and sophomore Katy Gotthardt scoring in double digits with 10.
Pitts led in rebounds, and senior post Khadeshia Hopkins got some key steals, Coach Braun noted.
The Junior Varsity also beat Jourdanton 41-31.
