PETTUS — The Skidmore-Tynan Lady Cats opened strong and then coasted to a 55-27 victory over their hosts on Tuesday night in a Bee County basketball contest.

The S-T varsity girls burned the nets for 18 first quarter points while holding the Lady Eagles to a mere six points. The lead blossomed to 24 points by halftime as the Lady Cats added 16 second quarter markers to their side of the ledger. The S-T defense was still hard at work, holding the cold-shooting Lady Eagles to four points in the period to take a 34-10 advantage into halftime.

The pace slowed in the second half. The Lady Eagles popped for seven points in the third period while the S-T squad managed nine. The score, at the end of three, was 43-17 in S-T’s favor.

The Lady Eagles began to find their shooting touch in the fourth quarter, hitting for 10 points. The Lady Cats countered with 12 markers to make the final a 55-27 victory.

Amber Hughlett led the S-T scoring with 11 points. Mari Martinez was also in double figures with 10. Victoria Hernandez and Isabelle Jimenez both hit eight markers. Andrea Leal and Emily Salinas added six points each. Courtney Leonard contributed five and Naomi Garza made one free throw.

The Lady Eagles got eight points from Ryan Grayson and seven from Tristian Moore. Tori Arrisola added four points for Pettus, while Cheyenne Del Bosque, Madi Garza and Randi Arrisola all chipped in with two. Destiny Carrillo and Ashlynn Schauer each added a free throw.

The S-T girls are competing in the Kingsville Academy tournament this weekend. On Tuesday night, the Lady Cats will travel to Goliad to take on the Tigerettes.

The Lady Eagles will host the Lady Horns from George West on Monday. The JV girls take the floor at 5 p.m. with the varsity contest to follow.
